The sundried Garcinia (Goraka) fruits are valued widely in Sri Lankan and Indian cooking though it is too acidic to be eaten raw. The souring agent is used in South Indian and Sri Lankan famous fish curries and other seafood preparations. Garcinia is known to destroy histamine in fish by 80%, also used as a preservative whilst it also improves the hardiness of the fish pieces.
